Get serious! The Cerro Grande Fire burned over 45k acres before it was declared out around two weeks after it started.

The fire burned over a large fraction (the 8k acres mentioned) of the laboratory, and at one point seriously threatened TA-54, which was the main reason for evacuating White Rock. The canyons south of TA-3 also burned. Another point is that indeed, some burned trees were refused for public sale due to fear of depleted uranium contamination from shrapnel and soil uptake from decades of open-air hydrotests.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28220200.post-62323067226212304792008-05-05T20:10:00.000-06:002008-05-05T20:10:00.000-06:003:26 pm: "YES, we're TAOS we're anti-nuclear too!!...3:26 pm: "YES, we're TAOS we're anti-nuclear too!!!

There's a surprise. I guess they were tired of all the Santa Fe activists getting all the press. Like that matters considering they are upstream and usually upwind from the Hill.

Oh, then there's:
"One of our current commissioners, who owns a lumber and saw mill operation here, remembers lumber operators who were trying to clear out burned and downed timber from the fire area were warned off because of radioactive contamination," Gonzales said.

They were spookedf because of scare tactics by Mello's Rangers. They'll never let a good opportunity pass them by for some good press. Then there's the fact that the overwhelming majority of trees and brush burned were NOT on Lab property. They were way uphill of the Lab. Seems to me the 8k acres that burned were also, for the most part, higher up slope than where the legacy waste was dumped.

And so it goes...Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
