And plastic surgery? An alert reader brought this photo to our attention. Who is that unmasked man? He looks familiar but we can't place him.

Funny - but this also brings up an interesting question. Just how big of a posse did sheriff Mike take with him to Washington?
ReplyDeleteHey, isn't this is former DOE-guy Marquez? A female employee's worst nightmare, but at the Lab he's Mikey's right hand. Birds of a feather, as they say. What a wonderful place this is.
ReplyDeleteIsn't that Joaquin Phoenix? Is he making a movie on the hill? The make-up doesn't do though.
ReplyDeleteThis Joaquin Phoenix?

I vote for Marquez...visiting the "Posse Shacks" in Georgetown.
ReplyDeleteHow dare you malign Mr. Marquez. He negotiated a no-tell exit from DOE when he voluntarily resigned. There is no record of his sexual harrassment of the female employees. If you don't believe me, ask him!

ReplyDeleteMarquez? Don't forget about that little girl up around Abiquiu, Coyote or Tierra Amarilla area.
ReplyDeleteThe DOE must be proud of their "imbedded" operative. He's the "DOE-guy" who for years orchestrated (approved), from within the DOE, UC's long-standing no compete award of the LANL contract. So when he got caught with his pants down (again), of course UC (Brown/Salgado) would come to the rescue. Salgado, by the way, was just one more of the many DOE exiles double-dipping at Los Alamos at the time. Marquez returned the favor years later by helping to orchestrate (engineer) a last minute face-saving maneuver to keep UC entrenched in Los Alamos. This is the charade we now call LANS LLC. Never mind that UC itself is now in the sack with the military industrial complex. Marquez' job is to make sure UC keeps laying on its back--butt pressed firmly against mattress. Sit sill in other words, as the military-industrial complex guts LANL of its scietific mission and transforms it into a pit production facility. That's why Marquez was in D.C. with Mikey...covering is rear, so to speak.
ReplyDeleteLooks like an arrogant butthead cowboy to me.

ReplyDeleteThe good Doctor doesn't care much for false accusation, but there have been a lot of rumors.
Does *anybody* have anything more than rumor? Cough it up!

Doesn't anyone find it interesting that Mike brings a big posse to DC and then restricts the rest of the Lab's travel as a "cost-savings" measure? Along these "cost-savings" lines, I recently went on a programmatic trip and found out that we are only allowed a mid-size vehicle and no longer a full-size. OK, I guess I can understand the $3.00 savings per vehicle, but get this ... the senior level managers still get to rent a full-size vehicle. The budget manager told me this and also told me that the certain managers use the LANL rate for personal rentals. Nice little double standard going on here, methinks.
ReplyDeleteGuess everyone didn't get the memo that there are really different levels at LANL now.

ReplyDeleteI was chatting this weekend with an old friend who works at, how can I put it, a lab that still engages in science. I learned that both ADCLES and Deputy ADCLES traveled to DC last week to attend the same BES contractors review meeting on actinide chemistry. My friend wants to know what they were up to, thinks they are trying to corner the market and take funds from other sites. Fair enough, but is it necessary to vacate the AD's office entirely? (Did anyone notice they were gone?) Why isn't Terry Wallace telling them no?
And while I'm on the subject, why was the number one "science highlight" in last week's ADCLES newsletter pointing out the fact that the AD herself (and some coworkers, but never mind them!) got some proposal funded to study plutonium uptake by bugs. Is the ADCLES writing proposals on our overhead dime? Is she forcing her name onto other people's proposals so that she can pad her resume, just in case the management thing doesn't work out? Either way, I don't get a good feeling from this. Not to mention the fact that she gave herself top billing in her own newsletter. That's just tacky and self-serving.
4:33 PM - this is not the first time that she has given herself top billing on items in the ADCLES newsletter. We will probably see it in the PADSTE highlights since she most likely submitted it for that medium as well. The Hakim person is just one of her former PDs that she forced her directorate to hire to run her research program. This guy got forced onto EES. He does anything she says.
ReplyDeleteI always wondered about the DOE security clearance process and whether workplace abuses like the one discussed here ever impacted the DOE's assessment of individual character and reliability. But now, knowing that even admitted drug users can get a security clearance at Los Alamos, nothing surprises me. The American taxpayer keeps taking it were the Sun don't shine and their elected reps, once again, keep pretending they don't notice.

Shouldn't you explain yourself better before trashing one's reputation?
Reputations sometimes get trashed by their owners. While there will always be others willing to heap more garbage on top, in this case we're only talking about quantity as opposed to quality. Kind of like the woman who wouldn't go to bed with the stranger for $50, but would for a million dollars. When offered the $50 she became outraged, exclaiming "what do you think I am?!" Well we already know what you are madam, said the stranger...now we're just negotiating a price.

ReplyDeleteTerry is afraid of ADCLES. He looks the other way when she misbehaves instead of making her act in a responsible manner as an AD should. In fact, Terry is afraid of any strong-willed woman. He surrounds himself with "yes-men" who make him feel better about himself. It will be interesting to see who he appoints as his deputy ... oh, I mean hire through a legitimate search.

ReplyDeleteYes men.....? Hmmmm.....
The poster on 4/29/07 9:49 AM stated that he was shocked to learn that upper managers use the budget corporate rate for their personal rental car use. I know in the past all LANL employees were always able to use the Budget Corporate rate for their personal and well as official business car rentals. As far as I know this has not changed.
