National Academies plan water briefing

A new report by the National Research Council on the groundwater protection program at Los Alamos National Laboratory will be released later this week.

Members of the committee that wrote the report will present a public briefing at 9 a.m. Friday in Fuller Lodge, 2132 Central Ave. in Los Alamos.

Representing the committee will be Larry W. Lake, the committee chair; W.A Moncrief Centennial Endowed Chair in petroleum and geosystems engineering, University of Texas, Austin; Rodney C. Ewing, vice chair of the committee; and Donald R. Peacor, Collegiate Professor of Geological Sciences, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.

The report will address the program at LANL and identify technical issues the laboratory should address to enhance its effectiveness. The report, "Plans and Practices for Groundwater Protection at the Los Alamos National Laboratory," will be released at the one-hour briefing.
