It's been a busy week, capped by LANS yesterday officially giving the 60 and 120 day notices of the upcoming RIFs. However, this week's COTHW comes from the quiet little Save Our Science Rally post, which has only collected 3 comments at this time.

"My guess is the people at this Santa Fe rally can probably all fit in the same car. That way they'll save on gas."
This quote from the "Rally" post is almost as good:
ReplyDelete"As young officers of the Republican Party, we are quite interested in retaining LANL's pit production money," Dolin said.
Did anybody go? If so, can you tell us how many people showed up?
ReplyDeleteThis was nothing but a publicity stunt for our local publicity hound, Ron Dolin.
ReplyDeleteThey just ran a very short story on this rally on KOB. From the looks of things, it was an extremely light turnout. I would say maybe 20 people total, evenly divided between people "saving science" and people protesting the existence of the lab. 5:24pm, you were right, though. The hound gave a speech that was sound-bite'ed for TV. You'll be pleased to know that he is proud to be associated with the lab.

WOW! "DOZENS of people showed up!"
Maybe a better way to save science is to do science instead of blowing off Fridays (yeah, its your Friday off - it's always your Friday off).
ReplyDeleteYeah, no shit 8:31 PM - the parking lots are always more than half empty on Fridays - EVERY Friday. I am just waiting until LANS does away with the 9/80 work week.
ReplyDeleteI like the 9/80. My Friday "on" is quite peaceful. I get a lot done.
ReplyDelete"the parking lots are always more than half empty on Fridays"
ReplyDeleteIn fairness, Friday is a very popular vacation day.
more than half empty?
ReplyDeleteI prefer to think of them as less than half full.
Be optimistic.
If you work every Friday (5/40) you get a lot done on those days. All (well. half) the yahoos whose idea of "work" is to make phone calls and send emails are gone. When Group secretaries are gone, the world is a beautiful place.
