It seems there was a little office party at La Fonda last night.

Guess who:

  1. Nothing but the best for our great leadership. I hope they didn't choke on the bacon-wrapped-shrimp or the expensive wine they had catored. They must celebrate the great job they have done this year and all the involuntary RIFs that are going to be occuring. Celebrate! Merry X-mas jerks!

  2. Gee, I wonder how many snow-days this shin dig cost the Lab ...

  3. No common man hotdogs and chips for these guys. Only the best will do.

Party hardy, LANS. The rest of LANL can eat cake.

  4. I just hope DOE doesn't find out that LANS charged the party to overhead instead of taking it out of their award like they are supposed to. That would be bad, right? LANS might get, you know, another slap on the wrist.

  5. But how would DOE ever find out that LANS tacked the cost of their fancy Christmas soirée onto DOE's ticket? LANS is a private corporation, they don't have to open up their books to anybody.

Oh, wait, I just remembered: DOE reads this blog! That's how they might find out. Boy, I sure home Mikey doesn't get into hot water over this.

  6. Oh, I don't think DOE would begrudge LANS a little innocent Christmas party indulgence being charged to overhead. After all, LANS has done a heckuva job this year, wouldn't you agree?

I mean really, when the place already costs a $ million a day to keep open, what's a teensy little party slush fund amongst friends? The cost of the La Fonda gig has to be peanuts compared to KSL's "Christmas bonus" of $41 million.

  7. Did no one realize how tacky this was going to look when it showed up on the blog? Or is it just that no one cared...

  8. Overhead? You wish. Check your codes for unexpected direct charges, LOL.

  9. Sssshhhhh! Be quiet or else staff may discover LANS plans for Mike and his PADs to have a get-a-way "working conference" at a 5-star resort in Hawaii this Spring. Party Hardy, boys and girls!

No, it's sad that they were so brazen and dumb to attempt to pull it off.

You have got to be kidding?

  12. 10:54 PM, you act surprised. Haven't you noticed all the first-class lavish travel our top ADs, PADs, and dipshit Director have gone on in the past year? They always travel with first class accommodations. Need to look the part you know. Heck, I seem to recall an earlier post about one of our ADs taking a multi-week world tour around the world with her husband "to look at isotope production facilities ... r-i-g-h-t... I thought DOE always denied foreign travel to the same location for married couples, but it would seem that rule does not apply to all LANL employees. I hate to think how much their second honeymoon cost us ...
Now we hear about a "management retreat" to Hawaii ... imagine that!

  13. This was is very poor taste.

But, then so is everything that
    Mikey has done.

  14. The one time I've been on the same flight as Mike Anastasio, he sat in first class. The only time I was ever on the same flight as John Browne, his seat was farther back in coach than mine. Don't know if that was normal or not.

  15. I saw all the signs for this "do," and there were many--all self-congratulatory. Many hours were spent on getting them done (and done over, which is always the case) and setting up the displays at the venue (including some weekend work).

I was also told by a very reliable source that this S-Fe soiree was just the culminating all-year-long, multiple-address celebration of Bechtel's 30 years in business. In other words, they've been celebrating in their office locations all year. (Of course, they couldn't celebrate IN Los Alamos. After all, they all live in S-Fe. Besides, LA isn't fancy enough for them.)

They reserved 6 suites (at $450.00 a pop) for anyone who got tipsy at the party and didn't want to drive home. (Their cost-saving measure came on the day before the party, when they reportedly cancelled 2 of the suites. Guess they thought it was too expensive or something, eh?)

    LANS is The BORG!

  16. Hell, if it comes out of the management fee - who cares? If it comes out of LANL operating funds - tsk tsk tsk

  17. Do they tip well?

A few weeks ago John Browne sat a few rows ahead of me on a Southwest flight - I guess his travel preferences haven't changed.
