Frank,
If plaintiff's attorneys were awarded $4.4 million (reference Final Approval Order), the Lab's attorney's--the Rodey Firm, received at least $6 million in defending the Lab. This means the taxpayer doled out nearly $22 million for this fiasco to get resolved--$12 million to compensate the class of about 5,000 individuals, plus $10 million to compensate the attorneys involved. So who won? Clearly not the taxpayer.

It was approximately 3,000 class members.
ReplyDeleteLoyda, you go girl!
ReplyDeleteYou're right, Loyda done good for herself-- she and the attorneys done damn good. Taxpayer, not so good.
ReplyDeleteLaboratory Management constitutes a 1 to 3 ratio per employee and you're focused on this lawsuit? No wonder they continue to walk all over us. Has anyone considered doing the math on what its costing the taxpayers to pay for the top-heavy managers at LANS?
ReplyDeleteIt appears Charles Montano has an axe to grind with the Class Representatives. If the public only knew the real truth behind his nastiness!
ReplyDeleteCharles Montano has shown himself to be an anti-Anglo racist. Could be that he doesn't like women either.
ReplyDeleteThe lawyers earned their fees.
ReplyDeleteBUT, I cannot think of four less-deserving individuals than the named plaintiffs.
And what would you know of named plaintiffs? I don't believe that you walked in their shoes, put up with the reprisal, rumors and other bogus HR actions against them - this is common knowledge if you have ever talked to any of the six women. They obviously had a legal standing to their claim - that is, a federal judge ruled that their case had merit and supervised and approved the final negotiation amount. If you don't like or if you disapprove of these individuals fine but don't minimize what they accomplished. No, I am not Loyda, but I have discussed the issues with her. I do respect and admire her personal courage, determination and fortitude to make this action go the mile. She did more than anyone else who constantly whines about the Laboratory. How about you? Will you step up to the plate and publicly hold LANS accountable for its mismanagement of an entire Lab?

ReplyDeleteThe Women and Hispanics probably cannot think of one (namely you) less-deserving individual cashing in on this lawsuit.
"Has anyone considered doing the math on what its costing the taxpayers to pay for the top-heavy managers at LANS?"
ReplyDeleteOn the contrary, very few of LANS senior managers are viable candidates for breast reduction surgery.
It is clear that anonyous at 8/10/08 12:20 PM never worked around the plaintiffs.
ReplyDeleteYou must be a member of the KKK Chapter in Los Alamos (8/10/08 4:06 PM) at work again!
ReplyDeleteThis goes along with us backsliding under Bush on things like equal pay (we actually saw a decrease in women's wages as compared to men for the first time in decades under our current president).

Great another troll. Grow up!
Please don't forget all of us women who did not sign up for this lawsuit to leave ourselves the option to sue the f*cking pants off the lab when they screw us over during this next salary cluster f*ck.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure if these women deserved their rewards as I don't know all the details in this case. However, I agree with poster 12:20 PM that at least these women weren't like the pussies who make up most of the work force at LANL when it comes to challenging LANL management.
ReplyDeleteThey showed they had the 'cahones' to push-back using the legal system and win. Maybe if more of the staff had this type of fortitude then things would begin to improve for the workforce who remain at LANL.
Man, what a horrible place the Lab has become. The language. The anger. The name calling. The name dropping. I'm so glad I got out when I did.

I take it you're the President of the KKK Chapter in Los Alamos. Congratulatios! You continue to breed hatred.
Libel and slander used to be frowned upon by society. Not anymore apparently.
ReplyDeleteHopefully this terrible chapter in the Lab's history will never repeat itself. Nobody ever really wins these things.
ReplyDeleteThis goes along with us backsliding under the Pelosi congress on things like equal pay (we actually saw a decrease in women's wages as compared to men for the first time in decades under our current congress).
ReplyDeleteAmen, 8/10/08 10:26 PM. Life is good.
ReplyDelete"Man, what a horrible place the Lab has become." - 10:26 PM
ReplyDeleteNow that LANS LLC has taken over and Bechtel is calling the shots, things are better than ever and morale is moving sharply higher. This according to Director Mike.
However, when I survey LANL employees , I find that their mood is extremely gloomy. It has gone so low that it is at scary levels.
What say you? How's the morale in other parts of LANL. Is it really as bad as it appears?
8/10/08 8:19 PM
ReplyDeleteCojones no 'h' in Spanish
I wouldn't extrapolate from anonymous blog comments to the state of the lab. This is typical of nearly every venue on the internet where people can say anything they want with little risk of it being traced back to them. Just pick any newspaper worldwide with a forum or web site that allows anonymous comments, and you'll find the same gutter garbage that you see here. You get used to the fact that online has a different signal to noise ratio than real life, so you adjust your filters appropriately.
ReplyDelete1:42 PM - I am not 10:27 AM and I am also anonymous as you and almost everyone else on this blog. But I am still in contact with my former colleagues and their motivation and morale have seen much better days.
ReplyDeleteI agree with 2:33, my former collegues have commented how much they dislike their managers to the point that they will no longer put in any extra effort because it only helps the Bechtel managers get a bonus/new car while they get - let's see, more work because the Bechtel non-management employees don't know how to do their jobs, less motivation because it is Bechtel's practice to try to motivate employees by intimidating the hell out of the employees, thereby assuring they are not intimidated, instead extremely turned off, and they are pressured to put together bogus stats for bogus reports to NNSA. And they have a deep distrust and general sense of unease and believe that the Bechtel counterparts (many with less education and less expertise) are being paid more while being incredibly dumb and slow so they do less. There will be another lawsuit when the Bechtel salaries are compared to former UC employees, again the results placed on the taxpayers.
ReplyDeleteEverybody associated with LANL in any way knows that Rechtel has made a considerable mess of things.
ReplyDeleteBUT, nobody who matters gives a damn.
So just like the managers, it's every man (or woman) for him(her)self.
For us, that means no more working extra hours, just do the minimum. Always remember: "working hard at LANL is like wetting your pants while wearing a dark suit. It gives you a warm feeling but nobody notices."
Why would most employees want to put in extra hours when their Bechtel managers don't. Look around at 5:15 on a normal workweek and see how many Bechtel managers are working! Yet, during 8-5 they are pushing hard for performance measures and adjusting them so that LANS can get fee and they can get their bonuses! So, look around at 5:15 pm and then look at the measures and compare them to what was originally negotiated...that is if they will let you look at them! Maybe they will even get fee for implementing a new employee appraisal program this fiscal year or should I say the last three months of the fiscal year. Morale just keeps getting better, doesn't it Mikey?
ReplyDelete"Morale just keeps getting better, doesn't it Mikey? 8/12/08 10:34 AM"
ReplyDeleteHow could Mikey even know? He hasn't come down to visit the "stenches in the trenches" for quite some time.
He gets his bonus. He gets mine too.
Anybody hearing what the base raises will be at LANL come October 1st?
ReplyDeleteHey, if you get the ISSM survey to fill out, you may find it worthwhile just for the opportunity to answer the one question about how morale REALLY is at the lab.
ReplyDeleteThe rest of the questions are a confounding, idiotic mess having to do with perceived cybersecurity risks and whether ISSM is fully integrated into a bunch of activites you've never heard of.
