Abuse of power at LANL? Surely you must be kidding ...

Frank,
Mary Neu is abusing her power to settle old vendettas. The most recent being the order to transfer/firing of the best RCT at TA-48/RC-1 by January 1, 2009. This wonderful RCT is in fact being transferred to Sigma and will start there December 15th.

Any other tales of how Neu has abused her power and fired or gotten rid of people she did not like or felt threatened by?

Discuss...
--Don't call me Surely

Don't call me Surely,
Let's start with some details on the most recent vendetta. Why would someone want to get rid of their best RCT? That doesn't make any sense. Give us "the rest of the story".

  1. I don't know what the problem is but I have heard that the three group leaders and the facility manager have all petitioned to keep Rebekah at 48, but Neu is the RAD and wants her GONE, and more heads will roll if Neu doesn't get things her way. I just hope Rebekah has kept good documentation over the years.

  2. What's an RCT?

  3. In is increasingly clear that to become an AD, one must check one's moral code at the door. Knap, Neu, Seastrom, etc. don't even lose sleep over the lives, careers, divisions, and programs they have destroyed. We work in a moral wasteland.

  5. Someone has a vendetta? How about the person that started this thread?

  6. If RCTs can be pushed around like this you have to wonder how effective the new CSEs are going to be.

  7. You get rid of the best RCT because she is the best RCT!

  8. I worked in RC-1 for several years, and worked with Rebekkah many times during that time. I always found her to be extremely competent, and very concerned with my safety. RC-1 will be much less without her. Believe me, this has NOTHING to do with her work performance, and everything to do with Mary's husband being a pussy. This is all about a grudge, and nothing more. "Carol wants Rebekkah to stay, and therefore she must go," says Mary.
And Frank, this "doesn't make any sense" only if you care more about worker safety than your own ego.

  9. I was afraid that was the issue.

  10. Mary Neu f*cking people over? Just ask John Gordon, the former group leader of C-IIAC. Mary set him out to hang when she got busted dipping into overhead to fund her own research intiatives and the people she hired to work on her projects. He was a great group leader and Mary got him eliminated...

  11. "He was a great group leader "

    LOL. ROFL. ROFLMAO.

He lost his clearance for excessive drinking.

  12. They should get rid of Mary, never met anyone who liked her at work or personally.

  13. I agree with 5:07 PM - each time you meet with Mary you walk away with knives in your back. such a delightful human being ...

  14. LANS seems to excel in placing people of Neu's ilk into most of the top spots at LANL.

  15. From 12/11/08 8:15 PM, "LANS seems to excel in placing people of Neu's ilk into most of the top spots at LANL."

Yes, saves them money when people leave because of managers who abuse their power. You should look at how many people - and many are the best - from Chemistry have left because of Neu.

  16. Today my group leader told us that we cannot bad-mouth Neu without severe consequences. We already knew that but kinda telling that the "rule" had to be reinforced as a threat from above...

  17. The problem is LANS is hypocritical. Nothing has changed
at LANL. How come does DOE keep them on? Pushing RCTs around, close calls on safety. How come can an AD get away with this?
Come on upper management wake up.
Help the little people out or are you just too interested in collecting that fee? How did that happen by the way?

  18. Yep, you got it about right, 8:53 AM. Me and my buddies on the LANS executive team are living the good life. It's our reward for writing the winning LLC proposal for the NNSA contract bid. The rest of the employees can rot in hell for all we care. As long as they don't screw up with safety or security, our world at the top is fine. NNSA loves us!

You don't like it? Then leave and don't let the gate hit your butt on the way out -- that would be a safety violation that could harm my nice 20% bonus!

If this is true it sounds as illegal as hell. You should go straight to lab legal. Abuse like this will only stop when people stand up again

  20. Lab legal? You're joking, right?

  21. 7:18 - what group?

  22. Hey Mike A., no door hitting my butt. I could only hope for an alpha probe hitting yours.
Oops, that won't happen since you never get out of your office. Rebekka and I will be here long after you and your ilk have gone with your 20%.
    Rebekka keep on keeping on!

  23. 7:18 PM - Lab Legal? They only stick up for management. That is, while the manager is in good standing of course - just Al Sattelberger who thought the people in Legal were his friends until he got put on the shit list by Nanos...

  24. Take it to lawyer Tim Butler in Santa Fe.

let's face it, if you work for IBM or any other corporation and talk like this about your line manager, you are gone SIR, what do you want? that M.Neu or any other senior manager comes to you saying, yeas dear, you are perfectly right? grow up people, LANL is all history and the bright and the whatever is all long gone,

  26. When Group level management has to threaten staff not bad mouth upper level management, that's your 'sure sign' that it's all over. Time to pick up and move on to a better job, if at all possible.
