No October increases at SNL, LLNL and LANL

Frank,
From a friend at LLNL....

The DOE has directed that Sandia, Lawrence Livermore and Los Alamos will each be given a total of 3% for increases later this year. However, the normal October date will now be pushed back to an early January date, and will not be retroactive back to October.

Could this be a means of saving money for three months?

I thought it important to share this information with those who will be affected.

  1. LLNL: Pot smokers, don't believe it. It's too early for anyone to know about raises yet.

  2. But, I still get my bonus, don't I?

Duh? The really interesting stuff should come out in the next couple of weeks when the budget is finally released. Pay close attention to what's adequately funded and what's not.

  4. The reason for this is that the big RIF will come sometime between October 1st and December 31st. By postponing salary increases, LANS can pay lower severance to the RIFfees.

This is considered to be a "management achievement" and will add to my bonus.

  5. 5/3/09 9:29 PM You mean to say if you are a pot smoker then don't believe it? Maybe you are asserting that LLNL is populated by a bunch of pot smokers who don't know what they are talking about? Perhaps it is the result of a field poll which finds that pot smokers don't believe it (if so please post data).

Well, if you smoke pot you don't buy into it anyway so no RIF.

  7. How clever. I'll bet somewhere, somebody will get an award for this idea. Afterall, it worked for Hazel O'leary.

  8. Given the current circumstances with the Federal budget, and what's likely to happen with DOE's budget in particular, that's about three-quarters of 3% more than I expected this year. The largest single raise I never got was the one that Hazel took away.

  9. Seems like I remember a rumor just like this last year.

  11. Raises are a relic of the past, most of us should thank our lucky stars we still get a pay check. The Gravy Train is almost over. Then what will we do?

  12. Does this mean that while our friends are getting their RIF notices, the rest of us will receive a raise? Now that cannot be good.

  13. I don't have any friends at LANL. It is good.

  14. Then I guess I shouldn't bust ass to make my PBIs for this year. If DOE can't bother to compensate us accordingly, then I can't be bothered to work long hours (even OT) in order for the ADSMS AD to get his big fat bonus check and LANS their award fee.

Yes this has happened here before!

  16. Raises will be in order for anyone who works at LANL as a facilities engineer (CSE) or construction manager.

The rest of you can probably count your blessings that you still have a job at this "science lab"... at least for now.

  18. Want to bet that the do nothing NNSA Feds overseeing LANL will still get their raises.

  19. What will be this year's raises for all the PADs and ADs at LANL. Since they all make well over $250,000 per year, they'll be subject to the new Obama income tax rates. I guess LANS LLC will have to give them all big, secret raises to overcome any of the tax losses.

  20. Did anybody ask Mikey about this during his public meeting?
