Los Alamos National Laboratory director Michael Anastasio has appointed Carl Beard as the new associate director for stockpile manufacturing and support at Los Alamos National Laboratory.
Beard has been acting associate director since June 2007. He replaced Michael Mallory, who was promoted to principal associate director for operations at the lab.
The stockpile manufacturing and support directorate works on technology and sciences to maintain the nation's nuclear weapons stockpile.
That includes the controversial production of replacement nuclear weapons cores, called pits.

That's funny, I was at work until 5:45 last night and I don't remember this being announced to employees before it went out to the press. Usually the Director's Office makes its announcements at 4:30 pm.
Mikey decided not to bother this time, 7:05. He figured we'd already heard about LANL's new mission.
Who did Mallory replace? I don't remember this.
"los Alamos lab gets
nude erection"...
Mallory's job was created out of thin air.
Remember, we had no PADs before the LANS incursion.
You left out this critical part from the AP News...
"Beard - who formerly worked at the Pantex nuclear weapons plant in Amarillo, Texas - has been acting associate director since last June."
He's another Pantex manager who's come to LANL to help transform the place into a Bechtel/BWXT pit factory!

p.s. the announcement went out on LINKS but none of us in ADSMS were bothered to be notified.
6:39 pm: "p.s. the announcement went out on LINKS but none of us in ADSMS were bothered to be notified."
You (along with all managers) were "notified" that checking "Links" each day was important to your job, when Links was established several months ago. Oh, wait, you were probably too busy to see that announcement too...

Wow, you left work really early according to the upper management. If you're not sticking around until 6:30 or 7:00 you are really not committed to the mission. Didn't your manager explain this to you?? I guess if I were you I'd try to be putting in a little more time. Try not to look so "union".
Mallory replaced VanProoyen as PADOPS, after VanProoyen replaced Mitchell as DDIR.
Yes, we read LINKS you idiot but it would have been nice if the Directorate was notified individually before the LAB-wdie distribution.
